Environmentally safe cleaners and household chemical substitutes that we use, and that you can make at home.

As with any cleaner, always test these in an inconspicuous area before full use!

  • Copper Cleaner- 1 cup vinegar, 1 tablespoon of table salt, white flour. Mix the salt and vinegar together until the salt is dissolved. Add enough flour to make a paste about the consistency of sour cream. Apply paste to copper and let sit for 10-15 minutes. Wash off with water and a non-abrasive cloth. repeat if needed.
  • Glass Cleaner- 1 cup water, 1 cup vinegar. If faster evaporation is desired, add rubbing alcohol, about 1/2 cup.
  • Kitchen Disinfectant- White vinegar full strength, or isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). DO not use isopropyl alcohol while smoking, or around an open  source of ignition!
  • Scrubbing Abrasive- S
alt or baking soda. Be careful, both will scratch many surfaces.
  • Deodorizer- A cup or bowl of white vinegar left in the middle of a room for 24+ hours will usually rid it of odors.
  • Weed Killer- 1 gallon white vinegar, 1 cup salt, 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of dish soap such as dawn. Mix together vinegar, salt, and soap. If a stronger weed killer is desired, add about 1/2 cup of salt and mix until the salt is dissolved. The soap acts as a surfactant to help the solution penetrate the weed and soil. Apply solution to entire weed and to soil around the base of the weed. This killer works well, is very safe, but does not have much of a residual effect.
